What to Ask in a Print Consultation Session

Quick answer

A print consultation is your chance to ask specific questions about file resolution, paper choices, and print sizing to avoid costly mistakes and get the best possible results.

Frequently asked questions

Will my file hold up at the size I want?

Ask the technician to check your image's resolution and recommend the maximum print size without visible pixelation. They can often suggest a smaller size or a different crop if needed.

Which paper type is best for my photo?

Describe your image (e.g., portrait, landscape, black-and-white) and where it will be displayed. The technician can compare glossy, matte, and fine-art papers to match your subject and lighting conditions. Bring a sample or a reference image if you have a specific look in mind.

Do I need to color-correct my file first?

Ask if your file's color space (sRGB vs. Adobe RGB) and white balance are suitable for printing. The technician can advise on simple adjustments you can make at home or offer to do it in the lab.

What about framing and mounting options?

If you plan to display the print, ask about available frame styles, matting, and mounting methods. The technician can help you choose options that protect your print and complement your decor. Decide on a frame size before ordering the print to ensure a perfect fit.

How long will the print last?

Inquire about the longevity of different paper and ink combinations, especially if the print will be in direct sunlight or high humidity. The technician can recommend archival-grade options for lasting quality.
